Within Work Package 4, HyPEF is moving forward with the application of draft Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs) to real and virtual hydrogen case studies, marking a new stage in the project. To ensure effective alignment with previous work and ongoing project needs, preliminary activities for data harmonisation and coordination with industry have already begun, even ahead of the task formal start.

Welcome to HyPEF! We will deliver and test the FIRST EVER Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs) for fuel cells and hydrogen (FCH) products.

HyPEF Brings PEFCRs into Practice with Hydrogen-related Case Studies

The HyPEF project’s Work Package 4 (WP4) will officially kick off, ahead of time, in August 2025 , when ENGIE will initiate activity on the application of draft FCH-PEFCRs developed in earlier project phases to real and virtual case studies. The scope of case studies covers hydrogen production, storage, and use, as well as providing key inventory data to the Life Cycle Data Network (LCDN).

In the meantime, the representative products for each application area have been defined to reflect real market shares and product configurations.

The main case study reports are scheduled for submission by February 2026.
